Here are five of our favorite family-friendly destinations to experience autumn in all its glory.
1. Flagstaff, Arizona
If getting out in nature is your idea of family fun, then you’re in luck. Flagstaff is surrounded by national forests, monuments, and parks, so you’ll get plenty of opportunities to take in some colorful foliage. It’s perfect for families who love connecting in the great outdoors.
2. Burlington, Vermont
If you’re into quintessential fall vibes, then Burlington is the place for you. Grab the family and head out for a day of apple picking, or get some cute family photos at the pumpkin patch. Bonus: if you can find a babysitter, take an evening off and enjoy some of Burlington’s local craft breweries.
3. Maui, Hawaii
When you think of Hawaii, you probably think of drinking something out of a coconut, on a beach, in the summer, but it’s actually quite the autumn destination, too. Try something a little different by taking a family hike in a rainforest, or choose one of many all-inclusive resorts with an abundance of activities for both the adults and the kiddos.
4. North Fork, Long Island, New York
North Fork truly offers all things fall in one place. From vineyards for the grown ups to annual fall festivals for the whole family to enjoy, you really can’t go wrong. Take a trip during harvest season to pick grapes off the vines, or wait for the temperatures to drop and trade your normal breakfasts for some apple cider donuts.
5. Williamsburg, Virginia
If you like your fall foliage mixed in with some classic American architecture, then Williamsburg should be at the top of your list. Are your kids interested in history? Take a family outing to experience historical reenactments from the 18th century. If that’s not your thing, take the kids out for a day of thrill at Busch gardens to enjoy their amusement park and spooky haunted house.
